FC Barcelona has announced the club has reached an agreement with Memphis Depay to join on free agent from Olympique Lyonnais once his contract expires.
Memphis Depay is expected to sign a contract until the end of 2022/23 season. Depay started his football career with his hometown club VV Moordrecht. He then joined Sparta Rotterdam, and from there moved on to PSV Eindhoven, where he made his Eredivisie debut.
Memphis Depay then signed for Manchester United after an impressive performance in the Eredivisie. At Old Trafford, and playing under Louis Van Gaal, he spent a season and a half before heading for Olympique Lyonnais in January 2017.
Memphis joined Manchester United as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement but failed to deliver as he was expected. However, he rediscovered his form in the French Ligue 1. He helped Olympique Lyonnais to reach the semifinals of the 2020 Uefa Champions League and the Coupe de France Final in 2019/20, losing the latter on penalties to PSG.
