Cristiano Ronaldo would be right to want away from Juventus

Juventus fans have been growing increasingly concerned about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in recent weeks, and it’s looking increasingly likely that the Portuguese will be playing his football away from Turin in 2021/22.

Images of the No.7’s entire fleet of luxury cars being taken away from his Turin home sparked even more worry, but the five time Ballon d’Or winner has every reason to walk away from the Allianz Stadium this summer.

Juventus on the decline
The Old Lady’s decline has been as rapid as it has been dramatic, and Cristiano Ronaldo is now 36 and doesn’t have time to be part of a rebuilding project. After nine straight Serie A titles, they have been emphatically dethroned by Inter, and are now at risk of missing out on a top four finish and having to play in the Europa League next season.

With one game left to play in Serie A, their fate is now out of their own hands. Should Napoli beat Hellas Verona and AC Milan win away at Atalanta, Juventus’ result against Bologna will be rendered irrelevant and they’ll be spending 2021/22 wishing the European Super League had come to pass, and wishing that they were good enough to earn the right to play against Europe’s elite clubs.

A chance at glory
The season isn’t completely written off for Juventus yet, though. They can still finish in the top four and book a place in next season’s Champions League, and they could yet end the season with silverware.

Juventus face Atalanta on Wednesday night in the Coppa Italia final, though they haven’t beaten the Bergamo side in either of their meetings yet this season – drawing 1-1 in Turin and then losing 1-0 away from home.

A split makes sense
With Juventus needing to rebuild from scratch and Cristiano not having time on his side, a separation this summer would make sense for all parties.

While his 2018 signing has obviously brought a lot of income and new supporters to the club, the Portuguese has been unable to deliver the one thing he was really signed for on the pitch – to win the Champions League. If anything, Juventus have regressed since his arrival, and it’s time for both parties to look elsewhere now.
