Following the death of Iniobong Umoren, a job seeker who was allegedly killed by a man named Frank Akpan in Akwa Ibom State, rumours have been flying about the death of the suspect in cell.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, today, paraded the suspect in the murder of Iniobong Umoren, Uduak Frank Akpan in order to dismiss the rumours going around about his death in custody.
The suspect was paraded with his father and he said that he killed the girl in self defence and not intentional. During a live Facebook session monitored by FIJ, the suspect said that he asked the deceased if she could work in a farm where hard drugs are kept and she said yes. The suspect also said that he asked her if he could have carnal knowledge of her and she agreed on the condition that he has to use protection.
According to the suspect, when he got up to dispose the condoms, the deceased got furious and hit him with a stabilizer on his head and he bled. While he was bleeding, he used the stabilizer to hit the deceased and she fell.
Uduak confessed that five other ladies have gone through similar ordeals in his hands but that none of them died.
The suspect’s father claimed that he had no knowledge of his son’s criminal activities until he was invited to Uran Police Station. His father also said that he was not happy about the crime his son committed.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command, Andrew Amiengheme who addressed journalists during the live session debunked claims that there were shallow graves and bones found at the crime scene. He said if anyone can show him the shallow graves, then they should.
He expressed shock about the fact that people thought a suspect in a cell would be allowed access to trousers to the extent of using it to hang himself. He also spoke against people using social media which is supposed to be a tool to the advantage of the police but it is now working against them.
