Actor, Baba Ijesha, is said to be released from police custody due to an ongoing strike by the members of the Judicial Staff Union.
According to reports, a directive has been issued for the actor to be released as he cannot be detained for more than 24hours without any trial.
Regarding the case, a senior Lagos state police is said to have stated that, both parties involved in the case have been interviewed and he claims, no case of defilement has been established.
The detective is reported to have claimed that, the victim’s mother, who caught the actor about to rape the girl, only talked out of sentiments and not a ‘point of law.’
He said, the child who was raped at age 7, only pointed at Baba Ijesha and since the case was not reported till now that the girl is 14, the case has now become statute-barred under the law.
Regarding CCTV footage that is said to have been recovered, he said, Baba Ijesha was only seen touching the girl but he did not defile her. He said, the girl also confirmed the same thing, and therefore, the incident is just a case of indecent assault and not sexual harassment and is therefore open to bail.
He said to have added that, keeping the actor in custody is “against his fundamental human rights and the police does not work on sentiments.”
