Zinedine Zidane hasn’t exactly had things go perfectly since returning to Real Madrid. After a complicated summer, especially in terms of departures, Zidane had to make do with the squad he was left with. Included in the squad were Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, two players who he wanted to move on.Yet they both stayed and Zidane used them in his line-ups. He has constantly spoken positively about them in public and has tried to help them recover their best form. Then came the nonsense with the national teams.
The French coach said at his press conference on Tuesday that both players aren’t currently available and that he hopes they’ll return soon, while they’ve both then been called up by their national teams of Wales and Colombia. All of this has come days after these two injured players leaving the stadium before the end of the game against Real Betis, when their teammates were fighting to try to secure a victory – even though the internal rules do allow for this.
It’s a lack of respect to Real Madrid fans and to the coach, who hasn’t separated them from the rest of the squad and who hasn’t criticised them in public. He has always defended them, ever since it was decided that they wouldn’t be sold this summer. Now, both of these players have left Zidane stranded.
